To understand ICANSWIM, and how it became a resource for your everyday technical guides, I wanted to give you a brief background on myself, and how I started this journey.
First off, my name is Nikolas, I am a mid 20s certified IT technician from Toronto Ontario, Canada. Throughout my childhood I was always fascinated by computers and how they worked. It was this sparked interest that led me to think taking apart a computer as an 11 year old was a great idea... Not so much. While it didn't go up in flames, it was close. BUT, from there I decided I wanted to know how to take it apart, and be able to put it back together, And my inner geek was born!
Over the next several years I delved deep into the technical side of computing via clicking, tuning, opening, breaking, and of course researching, everything I encountered. By the time highschool rolled around I was fluent in not only computer repair, but also discovered a love for website development (Which is why I am able to code this site completely independently)
At 12 years old I bought and started studying Computer Repair with the help of an A+ Guide to Computer Repair College Textbook. That book paved the way for an understanding of not only what was inside the computer, but how all the components worked together to complete a task, Your PC experience!
So back to highschool, I had become so fluent that I was assisting the IT department with their work and getting a look at the Network Security side of things. However, my interest lied and always has lied in the computer repair and user environment areas, with a particularly fond interest of the Group Policy Environment, and modifying what users can and can't do on their computer. It was because of this, that I was able to give myself extra permissions at my highschool, but we won't get into that here.
In short, I was able to take my knowledge and open a computer repair business while still a softmore. It gave me the real world exposure I was craving and eager to learn. Through various Corporate and Private jobs I discovered an understanding of how technology played out in the real world.
When college rolled around I was able to grasp the material with a well rounded and comprehensive understanding, and graduated without any trouble. Upon graduation I noticed a recurring trend, there was a lack of resources for everyday users to understand the convoluted terms and processes that take place throughout every computer session and of course repair!
And so... ICANSWIM was born!
